SPAM

Postby luit » Thu 10 Nov 2011, 15:26

Almost daily there are some SPAM accounts created on our forum.
We try to remove them as soon as possible.
Sometimes a SPAM account is also posting one or several messages.
Please don't post reaction on these SPAM messages, because those reactions also have to be removed by us, causing extra work.
Just send a PM to me or another admin, so we can remove the spammer completely as soon as possible.

Since the SPAM bot flood is increasing and we sometimes get over 10 SPAM users a day which all should be deleted manually I decided to change registration.
Registration now needs explicit approval of the admin and since I'm not always online, it might take some time to activate new users.
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I see no other way.

I think you can put some questions in the registration... for example which country was the last member of eurozone, or something like that.
This way only real person could answer correctly and the registration will be automatic.
Or else in order to complete the registration the person should click a link which was sent in his e-mail address.
I'm not sure if you can apply these here, but I've seen them in other forums registrations...

This is an option, but some SPAM bots just use the link send to them and now I don't have that problem.
Last day I got 40 new members, 37 of them were SPAM bots. Now I just have to pick out the 3 real users activate them, and then I can remove all the other users with one click.

Even more...
And because of the old PHPBB software less possibilities to handle them.
It is one of the reasons Ron stops.
